Join us in person at von Trapp Nursery, in Waitsfield, Vermont, and Little Farmhouse Flowers/Ampersand Bulb Co. to learn our growing practices first hand.

On farm workshops include all the same benefits as our online courses (including unlimited access to the corresponding online program) plus the benefit of seeing and trying the growing practices yourself. On farm workshops also include a catered lunch on each day and farm tours.

Our programs cover sourcing wholesale bulbs and materials/supplies, variety selection, planting, growing, and harvesting, disease and pest management, and marketing and sales strategies for your products.

On farm workshops take place inside and outside. Please come dressed for the elements and be prepared to get your hands dirty. We’re going to show you exactly what we do and give you opportunities to try it yourself.

Plan to arrive from 8:45-9am. We will start promptly at 9am each day.

October 4th: The first day is at Von Trapp Greenhouses in Waitsfield, Vermont and will focus on soil forcing.

(travel by car via the scenic Lake Champlain car ferries, to Jay, New York)

October 5th: Visit Little Farmhouse Flowers in Jay, New York for demonstrations and tours centered on hydroponic growing.

We aim to wrap up by 4pm, but please allow for some flexibility.

$1,550 per person. 2-day program.

Travel & Accommodation Details:

If you are flying, the closest airport is Burlington, Vermont, which is about an hour away. Manchester, N.H. is the next closest airport.

If you’d like to depart from a New York airport after the visit to Little Farmhouse Flowers, the Plattsburgh, New York airport is closest (31 mins). Burlington, Vermont and Albany, New York and Montreal, Canada are each about 2 hours away.

Accomodations:

If you need to book accommodations, there are a number of inns, b&bs, and Airbnbs, etc. in our area. The towns closest to us are Fayston, Warren, and Moretown. Montpelier is a small city about a half hour away.

Near Von Trapp Flowers:
1. The Warren Lodge Just a few miles away from the farm. 

2. White Horse Inn Just a few miles away from the farm.

3. The Swanson Inn Just a few miles away from the farm. 

4. Clay Brook Hotel Just a few miles away within Sugarbush Resort.

5. Airbnb is also an option. There are a number of local listings with availability. We encourage you to try to stay in the Mad River Valley, which is made up of the following towns: Waitsfield, Fayston, Warren, & Moretown. If you choose to stay farther afield in Montpelier or Waterbury, you will have a half hour drive from either town to the farm. 

Near Little Farmhouse Flowers:

1. New Vida PreserveJust 5 miles from the farm. A renovated ski lodge hotel with a bar, restaurant, and sweeping views and hiking trails.

2. Bark Eater InnA lovely inn. 14 miles from the farm with expansive grounds for walking and exploring.

3. Airbnb is also an option. There are a number of local listings with availability. We encourage you to try to stay in the Mad River Valley, which is made up of the following towns: Waitsfield, Fayston, Warren, & Moretown. If you choose to stay farther afield in Montpelier or Waterbury, you will have a half hour drive from either town to the farm. 

4. Lake Placid, New York has numerous hotels and inns. If you are interested in seeing the Olympic Village or are traveling with others who may want to see the sights there, it is worth a trip.

Car Rentals:

Vermont is a small state with LIMITED car rental availability, especially during fall foliage season (Tulip Workshop participants). We recommend that you reserve a vehicle before you arrive if you’re flying in. The earlier, the better! We have had students run into difficulty finding last minute rental cars upon arrival in the airports.

If you arrive in Waitsfield early, there are a couple of great spots to check out in town:

1. Lawson's Finest Liquids- A great place for a local brew. Located right off route 100 in the heart of Waitsfield.

2. The Mad Taco- A great place for lunch or a quick bite. Located off of route 100 in the shopping complex.

3. Canteen Creemie- Insane creemies, as well as snack bar fare. Located off of route 100 in the same shopping complex as the Mad taco.

4. The Taste Place- Another great place for a local drink, amazing selection of local cheeses and charcuterie. In the heart of Waitsfield just off route 100.

5. Mehuron's Supermarket- You can pretty much find what you are looking for here. Located in the same shopping complex as the Mad Taco and Canteen Creemie. (You’ll also find Emily’s flowers for sale there!)

Things to do Near Jay, New York:

1. Drive the Whiteface Memorial Highway- An 8 mile trip up Whiteface Mountain, culminating at a historic castle overlooking the High Peaks range and Lake Placid. There is a $20 fee per driver with one passenger. Additional passengers are $10 each. Children under 6 are free.

2. Lake Placid Olympic Sites- Check out the view from the top of the ski jumps or ride the gondola up Whiteface Mountain for incomparable fall foliage viewing. Visit, shop, and dine in the Olympic Village on beautiful Mirror Lake.

3. Visit Au Sable Chasm- A surprising geologic feature located 21 minutes from the farm. Take a scenic raft tour through the chasm and learn the history of the rock formations.

4. Hike the Adirondacks- Little Farmhouse Flowers lies within the 6-million acre Adirondack Park, with hundreds of hikes for novice to experienced hikers.
